Admission and Registration Procedures > Examinations and Grades

Examinations at the MUAS are divided into two parts:

  • The preliminary examination and
  • The Bachelor’s, Diploma or Master's examination
Successful completion of the preliminary examination ends the basic phase of the study programme. A certificate of completion is issued. Candidates who successfully pass the Bachelor’s or the Master’s examination receive the corresponding degree.

The preliminary examination covers both required and elective courses in the basic phase of studies. The Bachelor’s and Diploma examination cover required and elective courses in the advanced phase of studies as well as the Bachelor’s or Diploma thesis. Similarly, the Master's examination covers required and elective courses as well as the Master's thesis.

All examinations can be taken in segments. Students should adhere to the study plan published by the individual departments and take the exams at the scheduled times. Deviating from the schedule may lead to severe problems and delays in completing the programme.

In addition to examinations, various proofs of achievement (tests, study projects, seminars and project reports, practical work and presentations) must be completed during the course of study. These proofs of achievement may be required for admission to the examinations or as essential grade components.

Failed examinations may be repeated once within an academic year; this also applies to proofs of achievement. An examination or proof of achievement failed after being repeated for the first time must be repeated within one semester. A proof of achievement which is a component of the final grade may be repeated twice. Examinations may only be repeated twice in four subjects.

Exams and proofs of achievement are graded as follows:
Grade Rounded Grade Numbers Grade Numbers
„Very good“11,0; 1,3;
„Good“21,7; 2,0; 2,3;
„Satisfactory“32,7; 3,0; 3,3;
„Adequate“43,7; 4,0;
„Inadequate“55,0.
Examination admission requirements that do not form part of the final grade and the practical semester requirements are generally graded with „pass“ or „fail“.

Students who wish to take examinations or complete other proofs of achievement must register by the deadline posted and fulfil the prerequisites. Dates and times of registration are publicly announced by the university at the beginning of the semester and posted on the internet.
