International students

My time in Munich was unforgettable. There were always fun things to do, like going to museums and festivals. My stay at HM was great, I found all my classes extremely interesting and I had great professors that encouraged participation and always offered support. In addition, the International Office staff was always kind and helpful. I decided to go to Munich because I love German culture and I wanted to experience life in Germany. I was so lucky to find in HM the perfect match for my program. I loved learning German, the Christmas markets and snow-covered Munich. It was an amazing experience!

Being able to live in Munich for five months was an once-in-a-lifetime experience. Germany may not seem as appealing as other exotic destinations but I can promise you that it is going to change. Before you know it, you will fall in love with this city - because a stay in Munich has so much to offer! There are some memories I cherish more than others: Oktoberfest, going to a Bayern Munich soccer game, sunbathing in the English Garden or drinking Glühwein at the Weihnachtsmarkt. I chose Munich as a place to study first of all because of its location and secondly because of its economic infrastructure. Famous companies like BMW or Siemens have their headquarters in Munich. The International Office is really efficient, tries its best to answer all of your questions and to give you advice. Moreover, you will be matched with a local student from HM who will help you if needed. My German buddy became a close friend and we are still in touch.

A professor of HM noticed me in Italy in my home university and suggested to do my master thesis with him in Munich. Since I was born, I have always wanted to visit Germany and that was a great opportunity. I did not know anything about Munich in detail - and trust me - it is one of the best cities to live in. As an Erasmus+ Traineeship student I had more problems with bureaucracy than a normal Erasmus+ student, but I received endless support from my advisor, his assistant and my office colleague. The International Club (a group of local HM students) organise cool events and trips, merging happiness, culture and sport activities while exploring all the beautiful opportunities of the country. The smiles and happy moments of people from each part of the world is something I will never forget.

Before studying at HM I attended the Studienkolleg Coburg for one year. That greatly improved my German, so I could follow the lectures without language issues from the start. But I had to learn how to study "correctly", for example: how are exams structured and what is the best way to study for them? In other words: topics that concern all students at the beginning of their studies. I decided to go to HM because I really like Bavaria and the university has a good reputation. I appreciate Munich because of its many job options and the numerous leisure time activities that the city offers, for example hiking or skiing.

I loved my time studying abroad at HM as an undergraduate student in software engineering so much that I came back for a research exchange in my graduate program. Munich is a beautiful city and there's so much in the area to explore, whether that's wandering through the shops on Kaufingerstraße and stalls at the Viktualienmarkt, strolling through the English Garden, visiting amazing castles nearby like Neuschwanstein, or hitting up the night life near Karlsplatz. I had excellent support throughout my stay from my advisor at HM and from the International Office, so I never felt like I was alone in the city. However, I think the most rewarding aspect of my stay truly was becoming friends with and getting to know some of the locals! My German language skills have improved dramatically, and I've made connections that I know will last past my short stay there.

The support team provided me with all the needed documents for the VISA request and offered me the best value student apartment – all you need before arriving. It was a good time to learn more about Germany and the cities – and even countries – near Munich. Anyway, nothing can prepare you for the real life experience. Relax and be prepared to be adaptable. In my opinion, Germany is the country with the most successful social welfare politics among the biggest economic forces. Here, you can learn much more than science and maybe help your country even more than you thought.

The students at HM Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences are always provided with 100% information. This is something I really like.

My first impression of Munich was an extremely safe environment in a fairly large city. There were so many opportunities for places to see, people to meet and areas to practice my German. I was greeted warmly by the welcome buddy HM prepared for me. She really helped me in getting settled and finding my way through the bureaucratic difficulties. HM has been very supportive! The international office has a wonderful team that has taught me a lot of things that I will bring back to my home university in Philadelphia.

My dream is to be a car engineer and Germany is a leader of automotive industry in the world; especially Munich. Since I am very interested in technology of mechanics, the first thing that I did was visiting the Deutsches Museum and BMW Museum. Munich is also host to one of the biggest festivals in the world, Oktoberfest. It is a fantastic festival because there are so many different kinds of beer and kind hearted German people. Finally, Munich has different kinds of sports facilities in Olympiapark such as swimming, dancing, and badminton. I can definitely say that Munich is the perfect city in the world to study and enjoy culture and sports.

I chose HM Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences because it offers applied study in an economically strong location, which is why I stayed with the university not only for my bachelor’s degree but also for the master’s. During my studies, I gained insights into many areas of electrical engineering. The good level of contact with the teachers and the support of the administrative staff were much appreciated.

I've been in Munich as a kid during the Octoberfest time and I really liked it. As Germany and the HM Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences are really good in my subject cartography, it was very important to me to study here.
