CENERGIE develops total solutions for future buildings in the context of the energy transition. On the one hand, the focus is on researching and developing new engineering tools for planning and predictive strategies for operational management. At the same time, pilot and development projects in the field of heating, cooling and electricity generation and storage are being actively pursued. This involves working with sustainable and efficient architectural concepts.

The Institute for Material and Building Research was founded in July 2019 as one of the first research institutes at Munich University of Applied Sciences and represents the faculties of architecture, civil engineering and mechanical engineering. The focus is on the long-term preservation and sustainable development of building and infrastructure. Future research topics include the durability of materials, structures, and buildings; resource efficiency and life cycle considerations; and reliability and safety.

The Society, Health and Education: Research Center aims to identify underlying mechanisms of social change as well as their effects at an early stage, to effectively anticipate undesirable effects and to help secure positive consequences. From an interdisciplinary perspective, such future challenges facing the social, health and education systems in the long term are to be analysed. Specific research areas include resource scarcity, over-indebtedness and sustainability, skills shortages, discrimination and resilience.

Oskar-von-Miller-Award of the HM

Oskar von Miller is best known in Munich as the founder of the Deutsches Museum. In addition, he was a pioneer and early advocate of a versatile and practice-oriented education. The HM Munich University of Applied Sciences is committed to this attitude for an application-oriented academic education and honors outstanding achievements once a year in a ceremony, awarding the Oskar in the following categories: "Excellent Promotion", "Applied Research", "Quality in Teaching", "Excellent Degrees" and "Partner of Practice".

"Oskar" award winners 2022

Prof. Dr. Andrea Kustermann was recognized with the Oskar von Miller Award for the number, diversity, and success rate of research proposals in the last year. Her research focuses on resource efficiency in construction. With her team, she is investigating optimization processes in demolition, as well as possibilities for recycling demolition materials, and she is working on substituting CO2-intensive cement and improving recycled materials. HM Munich University of Applied Sciences honors Dr. Martin Denk for his excellent doctoral dissertation. He completed his dissertation titled "Curve Skeleton and Moments of Area Supported Beam Parametrization in Multi Objective Compliance Structural Optimization" at the Institute for Material and Construction Research (IMB), across departments. The work focuses on the development of algorithms for energy-efficient manufacturing of components. This application extends not only to mechanical engineering but also to medical fields, particularly in the reconstruction of implants. In this short video, he presents his doctoral thesis (YouTube-Link). His work was supervised by HM Professor Dr. Klemens Rother and Professor Dr. Kristin Paetzold from TU Dresden.
