Hochschule München and TAMK
The partnership between HM Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences and Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) – known as TAMK in short – was established in 2013. Since then, relations between the two universities have steadily strengthened and more and more students, teachers, academics and administrative staff maintain intensive exchanges in both directions, creating lasting academic and personal contacts.
The following main goals are the focus of the strategic partnership for both universities:
• Ensuring the quality and continuity of the cooperation
• Strengthening the international profile and attractiveness of both universities
• Creating synergies and pooling resources
• Increasing the number of participating departments
• Structuring new joint projects in research, teaching and continuing education
The activities and measures of the strategic partnership focus on three central areas:
• Continuation and expansion of student, lecturer and staff exchanges in both directions
• Development of joint study programmes, e.g. double degrees
• Establishment of joint teaching, learning and research measures
• University-wide cooperation and exchange on administrative and organisational structures
Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) currently counts about 13,000 students and can be compared to the HM and its approximately 18,500 students in terms of size. Both universities focus on fostering learning and creativity through a wide range of practice-oriented degree programmes. Like HM, TAMK has a technical orientation and equally emphasises the areas of health, society and business in its range of subjects.
In 2010, the two universities of applied sciences Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) and Pikanmaa Polytechnic (PIRAMK) merged to form Tampere University of Applied Sciences, making it one of the largest multidisciplinary universities of applied sciences in Finland. Today, TAMK is not only characterised by its diversity and multidisciplinary course offerings, but also combines competences from different fields in all education and development projects and works very closely with Tampere University.
TAMK is based in the Finnish city of Tampere, which currently has over 241,000 inhabitants. Tampere is one of the largest cities in the Pirkanmaa region and is often called the "Manchester of the North" due to its diverse and innovative industries. The TAMK campuses are in the city centre, in Hervanta and Kauppi. There are also other establishments in the Tampere region as well as in Pori and Seinäjoki.
Tampere University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest universities in Finland with a strong international profile and multidisciplinary orientation.
